In early September (2017) Nathan Clay accepted the offer of a 3-year Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the Department of Zoology and the School of Geography and the Environment with funding through the Wellcome Trust, Our Planet Our Health Programme on the Future of Meat and Dairy. The project is co-directed by Drs. Jamie Lorimer (School of Geography and the Environment) and Tara Garnett (Food Climate Research Network). Congratulations Nathan on this great appointment and opportunity.

–Nathan Defends and Files his Ph.D. on Agriculture and Climate Change in Rwanda. Congratulations to Nathan!
Nathan Clay successfully completed the final stages of his Ph.D in summer 2017 prior to moving to the University of Oxford (see above). Nathan’s dissertation is entitled “ADAPTIVE LIVELIHOODS?: CLIMATE CHANGE, AGRODIVERSITY, AND FOOD SECURITY
AMID DEVELOPMENT TRANSITIONS IN RWANDA.” Nathan’s Ph.D committee involved three faculty members in addition to Karl, who were Brian King (Geography); Carolyn Sachs (Rural Sociology); and Heather Karsten (Agroecology/Crop Science).
– 3-Year Senior Fulbright Award to Karl for Collaborative Work on Agri-Food, Water, and Biodiversity Research in Spain (Madrid and Granada)
In May (2017) Karl began a 3-year research project in Spain collaborating with several faculty members and graduate students in Madrid and Granada. Their project is focused on the spatial flows of biodiversity and water in and across agri-food landscapes.
